The Spook’s Nightmare will be available in shops from May 27th.
“The Spook, Alice and I were crossing the Long Ridge on our way back to Chipenden, the three wolfhounds, Claw, Blood and Bone, barking excitedly at our heels………”
Little do they know what awaits them in the future. This is the stuff of nightmares. Will the Spook live to see the morning? Is his apprentice ready to face the dark alone?
“The moon went behind a cloud, plunging us into darkness, and all I could see was a pair of glowing red eyes. Then it bellowed loudly - a fearful cry that made the ground - and the very trees - shake. So terrifying was that cry that I was rooted to the spot, unable to move.”

Hi again,
Only one more day til the release of The Spook’s Nightmare, I can’t wait in all fairness. Sadly, my copy doesn’t arrive until Saturday because I pre-ordered mine off Amazon, but at least I get it cheaper than it is in the shops.
I really hope that The Spook’s Nightmare is the best so far, because the rest are good (Especially The Spook’s Mistake, that was my favourite so far) and it would be amazing to have one that tops even all of them. If The Spook’s Nightmare is as good as the rest, then I hope it’s better than The Spook’s Sacrifice. Sorry to be critical and everything but I jus didn’t like it as much as the others.
I review books and stuff on LibraryThing and I always review every book of The Wardstone Chronciles right after I’ve read each one and I’ll be doing this with The Spook’s Nightmare. LibraryThing is a pretty big network in all fairness . . . I manually added The Spook’s Nightmare to the LibraryThng database and I’m currently the only member if I’m honest (The American edition, The Rise of the Huntress, has three members however).
I really like your books, Joseph and I think you are a brilliant writer. Lol, I check this blog everyday to see if you’ve posted anything new, that’s how much I like the series.
Really looking forward to it Mr Delaney, you’ve done really well so far keep it going.

Very sad that the new book is not available in the old style covers! Come on what about all the thousands of people already collecting the old covers? We will not be buying with the new covers.

I agree. I want to read the new book, but I love the old covers.

July 3rd, 2010 at 8:01 am
I would like to see the old cover as well. My collection is now ruined. Why not produce the old style cover on it’s own for collectors to purchase.
July 6th, 2010 at 7:19 am
Where is the old cover. Is it for sale?
July 6th, 2010 at 10:01 am
I agree I liked the old covers as well, they made the books feel, somehow special. Also I have just read the Spooks Nightmare in one sitting, it was AWESOME. The cliffhanger at the end was unfair as now I have to wait. It would be great if you came to Portsmouth on your book tour as I would very much like to meet Mr DeLaney, he seems to have a wicked, evil imagination. I respect that.
July 11th, 2010 at 5:16 am
Hi Joe. Really. Whose marketing brainwave was it to change the covers anyway? Was it because American children only like bright shiny things that attract their fleeting attention? Or were the old covers too ’spooky’? Bring back the old covers and stop mucking about! (Yes, I know you probably don’t have a lot of say in it, marketing people being what they are). The cover was what made me buy ‘Apprentice’ in the first place! I thought the soft cover was a bit like Tom’s notebook. Do you realise how many adult readers love these books? I live in Sydney and have introduced them to a number of my workmates, who love them - but HATE the new covers. I would have thought the outcry over ‘Sacrifice’ would make the penny drop, but apparently not. Many of us are waiting for sense to prevail with ‘Nightmare’ too. Some of us may not even buy it at all if it doesn’t, and that would be a great shame, (although, I expect I still will, because the stories are so good, and I suppose that’s what the marketing morons are banking on). The new covers are jarring and incongruous. Anyway, had my say. Thanks for humouring me. Take care. Sam.
July 16th, 2010 at 9:42 pm
The old cover is awsome. Please bring it back. Thats all there is to say.
July 24th, 2010 at 3:08 am
Mr. Delaney–I have just found your books/series at age 49! I have never been so happy with a series in my life. I hope you continue to write The Spook/Last Apprentice books. I have ordered everything I can get my hands on. I cannot thank you enough. It is hard for me to relax and these books are so enticing, that I can barely put them down and always hope to have more to order/read. Also, can we have a tour/book signing in the United States? I am in Atlanta, Georgia, but would be willing to travel to any other state. Thanks for your brilliance! Marie
July 24th, 2010 at 10:35 pm
Mr. Delaney,
I have found your wonderful books at the ripe old age of 49. They are truly life saving for me, as it is difficult for me to relax. As I read each one, I cannot wait to get to the next one. Please continue to write the Last Apprentice/Spooks books. I hope I always have one waiting to read. Also, would it be possible to do a tour/book signing in the United States? Your Grateful Fan, Marie

Agreed with all of the abve :). Your books are amazing , I’ve been reading them since I was like, Seven. I haven’t really been following them to closely recently and actually missed the realease of “Nightmare”. So here I, so excited by the prospect of a new book to read over the summer, searching for an old cover edition of “Nightmare” only to find out they don’t exist. When you brought out “Sacrifice” you brought out old cover editions so people could “preserve their collections” and now you just go printing glossy, rubbishy versions. I am now 14 and I really don’t appreciate it, I always loved the pictures on the front and they were alot scarier and more mysterious than these weird abstract things you’ve got goin’ on now. Anyway just saying I’m not buying the book till the covers change.
August 2nd, 2010 at 5:21 am
I also agree with the above. I’ve been looking all the time in case they print a version with the old cover. I desperately want to read the book, but I refuse to buy it in the new cover. The old ones just stood out in the shop. They looked different that’s why I picked them up. I really love your books so please Mr Delaney, talk to your marketing people or whoever’s in charge of it and make them change their minds. Show them all the posts on the site asking for the old covers. Thank you.
August 10th, 2010 at 3:35 am
i would like to know which book is the first one so i can go in order because i dont want to start from the middle then go in diffeent directions of the books, then i would get confused so if you will answer this question that would be great.
August 10th, 2010 at 9:50 am
Hi Jaclyn,
The Spook’s Apprentice is the first book in the series. You can see them in order on the books page: http://www.spooksbooks.com/spooksbooks.asp
Enjoy reading them!

Dear Spook’s Team
Why is there no response about the old style covers, surely the comments above are enough to tell you there is a huge demand for them?
August 12th, 2010 at 10:01 am
Hi Joseph,
Could you let me know whether the signed version of the spooks nightmare on amazon is the old style cover or just signed versions of the new style cover. I already own the new style cover but would like to keep our collection complete with the old style covers as I believe they are visually a nicer collection.
Please let me know if, when and where the old style is/will be available!
Many Thanks,
Marie

Hi Joseph. First of all, thank you so much more writing an incredible series. My only complaint, is one it seems is shared by many here. I was in a book store once with money I saved up, and had decided to buy a book. It was between Julian May’s ‘Conqueror’s Moon’, and Phillip Pullman’s ‘Subtle Knife’. However, I just about noticed ‘The Spook’s Curse’. Everything about the soft cover book intrigued me, and for looks alone, I decided to buy your book. I was definately not dissapointed, and soon after, I purchased ‘The Spook’s Apprentice’ and ‘The Spook’s Secret’. In the context of the story, the cover’s of the books could not have been designed better. It was as if the book was lifted out of the Spook’s library. On my next shopping trip, I was looking for the next book in the series, and of course the cover had changed. Most disappointed, I researched online and found out that the newest books were released with new covers! Your first 3 books were by far the most attractive books sitting on my bookshelf and I was…well, heartbroken. from the comments above, I know it may not be down to you, but if possible, could you TRY to change the covers back, or at least release the rest of the series in the old style cover. I don’t normally buy paperbacks, but as I mentioned, they fit so well in the context of what you read inside the book! I very much hope you can help for all of your fans who have followed you from the very first book in the series.
