Joseph Delaney joined the lucky winner of the Spook’s ghost-story writing competition for a spooky day out at Bodelwyddan Castle in Denbighshire. Joseph and the winner, June-Marie, had a tour of the castle and a demonstration of the ghost hunting equipment used on overnight investigations. There have been many ghostly happenings reported at the castle over the past few years and it has also been used as a location for an episode of Most Haunted. Unfortunately they didn’t see any ghosts on their visit although Joseph did try out the dowsing rods which he talks about below:

“My tour of the haunted Bodelwyddan Castle was an interesting and enjoyable experience. I liked the accounts of the sightings of ghosts but my favourite location was the ‘Toy Room’ where I got a chance to examine ghost hunting equipment! Metal dowsing rods were used to see if there was a spirit in the room. The answer was ‘Yes’! When asked to point at the invisible ghost, three times the rods moved and pointed just to the side of my right shoulder. And the second time I was holding the rods and I felt them move in my hands. Perhaps the experience will go into a future adventure in the ‘Wardstone Chronicles’ series!”
